About Us

Liberty and Reunification!

It is remarkable, for millions of people Carnival has become an important representation of HOME. Even those who have never before attended Carnival are astonished at how they could be so comfortable and become so involved. According to Professor Dr. Kimani Nehusi, those who have left home, those who stayed at home and those who have never before been home, find home in the Carnival.

It is therefore with great pleasure that I have said ‘yes’ to Dr. Susan Alfred- Walcott, President of the Ghana-Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and initiator of the Kumasi Carnival when she did an appeal to me to function as coordinator of the Ghana Year of Return activities in Europe with the specific task to mobilize the African diasporas in the Europe as well in the Dutch speaking countries, followed by a mandate letter from Madam Janet Edna Nyame, Director of the Ghana National Commission on Culture.

Dr. Barryl A. Biekman, ambassador African Diaspora Union.

About the year of return

“The Year of Return, Ghana 2019” celebrates the cumulative resilience of all the victims of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade who were scattered and displaced through the world in North America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. In Washington, D.C., in September 2018, Republic Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo declared and formally launched the “Year of Return, Ghana 2019” for Africans in the Diaspora, in relation to the quest to unite Africans on the continent with the sixth Region diaspora in and outside the continent.
